What to do the day after a picnic with a hard-as-rock baguette? Make french toast, of course. This easy-to-make breakfast can be prepared the night before and even frozen after making.
Ingredients:
1 baguette
4 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
2 tablespoons of maple syrup, plus 2 more for the nectarines
Pinch of salt
Powdered sugar
Turn oven on to 350 degrees.
Step No. 1
Slice the baguette in 1/4 in slices and place in a oven-safe dish. Fit all the slices in the dish and ensure there isn't much space left.
Step No. 2
Mix eggs, milk, cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of maple syrup. Ideally you would let this sit overnight but otherwise, let sit for ~20 minutes. Then pop in the oven for about 20-30 minutes until tops are brown.
Step No. 3
Pour remaining maple syrup over nectaries (sliced in wedges) and toss to coat.
Step No. 4
Lay nectarines on a cast iron grill pan. Flip over when grill marks start to show.
Step No. 5
Dust with powdered sugar. Slice and serve with nectarines.
