One of my very best friends just moved into her first solo apartment. She asked me to help her decorate. I was so excited to be able to help her turn her blank canvas of a studio into a cozy place that she can call home. We are just getting started but made a quick stop last weekend to West Elm. One thing I like about working on other people's spaces is that they open your eyes to new colors and textures that you wouldn't have picked for yourself.
My friend was attracted to the fabric of the pillow case and we built off of it from there. We selected a bright white duvet cover because I love a big fluffy white bed. Then we gravitated towards navies and nubby textured rugs. I love lots of texture in a neutral apartment because it keeps it interesting. I went a little further and picked out a fun orange chair that would pull in the colors from the bed and a gorgeous structured marble coffee table to add a little interest to the mix.
What I ended up with is something that I really love but isn't typical of my black-and-white style. I really like the navy with the rest of the accessories and the little pops of orange. The style is sophisticated but inviting and not stuffy at all. Perfect for a person's first apartment.
