THE PERFECT HOLIDAY PRESENT: MASON JAR TOFFEE
I am not one to leave things to the last minute. I usually try to prep for most things and be ahead of the game. Well, during the holidays, all bets are off. Between the holiday parties and work, I ran out of time to be my usual prepared self.
When it came time to make my co-workers gifts I panicked. How was I going to make 24 beautiful gifts, quickly and affordably (I mean 24 times anything is expensive)? These mason jars filled with toffee were just the ticket. People can't resist the buttery goodness of toffee plus the wrapping makes it feel extra special. I got Mason Jars at my local Cost Plus (they were having a promotion) and ingredients at Trader Joe's. To make the labels I did a little calligraphy but you could easily just write on plain labels.
I followed this wonderful recipe and doubled it to make my gifts. I could have made one more batch and really filled them up but I thought that I should stop after two pounds (8 sticks) of butter.
They were a big hit around the office and people loved the packaging saying it was "very Instagramable" (see my Instagram pic) They came down to about $2.50 per gift which is a pretty darn good price, if you ask me. Can't get more merry that that!
