PAMPER ME PLEASE: SKINWORXS SF
I am fully confident that if I was a celebrity the first two things I would do would be to 1) hire a physical trainer and 2) get regular facials. I find getting a facial one of the most luxurious, best things that you can do for yourself. The effects of facials can still be seen days after the treatment is over.
My skin is STILL glowing from the amazing facial I received at Skinworx in SF. I was out during the big opening event a month ago but they invited me back to experience one of their signature Hydrafacials. Immediately when I walked in the door, after a long day at work, I was calmed by the beautiful interior. The modern, cheery vibe fits in perfectly with the neighborhood.
The best thing about Skinworx is that it was started by a nurse who uses medical-grade skincare to treat all sorts of skin concerns. So let's get to the treatment...
I loved the treatment room, it was minimalistic without feeling clinical. It was clear when I stepped in the room though that this wasn't one of those spa-type facials where the focus is solely on relaxation. The tools that lined the wall indicated this treatment was for some serious results.
On a side note, I'm totally in love with this blanket. After snuggling under it during the facial, she told me it was from Z-gallerie. Why the heck isn't it on the website still?! I think I may have found a semi-replacement with this Target one.
Ok, back to facials. So lets talk about Hydrafacials. Basically there is this machine with a tube on it, think dentists office but less painful. The tube both applies product AND sucks product and debris off your face. So there are a few stages involving a acid peel, extractions and hydration. The little tool feels like a squid is latching on to your face. Not painful but not extremely relaxing either. I am always down to try new treatments so this one was super fun for me. When they do the extractions they turn up the machine higher to suck out the impurities. She even told me if you leave it on one spot for two long you get a face hickey. Don't worry, I didn't get an face hickies.
After the peel, the extractions and the last layer of hydration, I got to have some light therapy. Now this was also something that I haven't experienced before. The machine that they have emits red, blue, yellow and green light. Each works to address a skin concern--aging, bacteria-growth (ie pimples) swelling and inflamation as well as lightening hyper-pigmentation.
I had seen it on celebrities with those silly horror-film-esque masks but it was time for me to try. As she programmed both the blue and red settings, I jokingly said "It sounds like you are turning on a microwave" but she assured me the LED lights don't emit any UV light. The blue light was calming but the red light was downright bright. I couldn't tell you if the light did anything in the end (I'm sure it's one of those things that needs diligent repetition) but my skin was glowing after the treatment.
After the facial my skin was glowing, no Becca highlighter in sight. My skin felt hydrated, clean and radiant. What else can you ask for?! My overall experience at Skinworx SF was a very positive one. They made me feel comfortable even when the machines looked a little scary. I would love to work in a once-quarterly facial to keep my skin looking in tip-top shape. I encourage to visit them if you are in the SF area and in the meantime slather on that SPF ladies, gotta prevent those future wrinkles.
Thanks for Skinworx for providing me with a complimentary facial.
