A NEW FALL FASHION PERSPECTIVE
Whenever I hear "personal stylist" I think of some sad girl being helped by an oh-so-chic lady in a makeover montage. The tragic nerdy girl goes to a personal stylist to revamp her image. Well with all sorts of services out there today that could be called personal styling, that image is shifting for me.
I had a friend who recommended Boon + Gable to me awhile ago. I honestly sort of brushed it off thinking I wasn't the kind of person who needed a stylist. I mean I knew what to buy just didn't feel like shelling out the dollars to get it. Well fall came around and I made the shopping rounds. I went in and out of the dressing room of all of my favorite stores (I even rented a Zipcar to go shopping) without a purchase in sight. I finally decided to call in Boon + Gable because I needed some serious help getting out of my rut.
Now I have to disclose at this point that this isn't a sponsored post. I honestly just loved the service and wanted to pass along my experience to you guys. So here it goes...
First I downloaded the app. It took me through a series of questions to find out my personal style down to the type of fabric I liked and the colors I wear. Next, I set up my appointment and was able to snag one just four days after downloading the app. Then you put in what types of items you are looking for (I was searching for weekend to work outfits) They set me up with GG who even took a look at my style Pinterest board to pull clothes.
GG arrived early Sunday morning (9:30am) as perky as ever to do my fitting. She brought a giant bag of clothes in addition to shoes (I decided not to have her pull accessories) She made me solemnly swear to try everything on and keep an open mind but most importantly only buy what I loved.
I showed her a few favorite items from my closet while she unpacked the clothes she had brought. Olivia hammed it up the whole time, sitting and watching while we looked at the first outfit. I went to change in the bathroom and came out to show GG. We looked in the mirror to see the fit of the pants and top. I really liked that she was completely honest with me that the pants weren't fitting great and were a little unflattering. It was refreshing to know that she wasn't just trying to sell me something but really tell me what she thought. We both agreed that we didn't love the pants and I needed them in a different cut/fit.
I proceeded to try on all sorts of outfits that I would have never reached for in the store but matched up with my Pinterest board. It's funny that sometimes we love the way it looks in a photo but we stick to what we are comfortable with. That perhaps, is the biggest benefit of using Boon + Gable, it opens you up to new styles that you never would have considered. I knew that I wanted to look pulled-together and chic but wasn't getting there by reaching for the styles I picked time and time again.
I ended up buying 5 tops from J.Crew to Tahari, that GG helped me match to existing things in my closet. It is so nice to be able to shop in your own home with your favorite clothes within reach. I could show her the things I loved from my own closet so we could gradually add in key pieces from Boon + Gable. I honestly never felt pressured to buy things. We put all things that I was loving in the maybe pile then went through at the end of the appointment to review pricing and the things that I wanted. I ended up with five very classic pieces that will last me throughout the fall and into winter.
Take a look at the items I bought (plus some cute pictures of Olivia with "her new clothes") Shop the items I got below the post too!
